MAX VERTICAL JUMP

The Vertical Jump Max is way that coaches and athletes can evaluate explosiveness and power. The Vertical Jump Max is a measure of the distance an athlete's center of gravity travels. To be measured with accuracy can only be measured with a jump mat or force plate.

 

The Vertical Jump Max is often confused with the Max Vertical Reach test, which is a measure of the maximum height an athlete can elevate their hand and can be measured professionally by using a Vertec or less accurately at home by using a chalk wall.

 

Numerous organizations use this as a standard test, including the NFL and NHL Combines, and NIKE SPARQ Baseball testing.

Instructions:

The athlete stands in the center of the jump mat or force plate. Keeping the feet flat on the the mat, the athletes loads into the athletic position, then leaps vertically as high as possible using both arms and legs to assist in projecting the body upwards. As the athlete lands they are instructed to attempt to return to the athletic position and stabilize. Flight time, distance, and power production are calculated from the best of three recorded attempts.
